Temperature Probe eg Solder Iron
Temperature probes are devices used to measure temperature using contact-style sensing methods. These methods infer temperature by using probes to measure changes in a temperature-sensitive characteristic (such as voltage difference or resistance). Temperature probes consist of sensor junctions in direct contact with a metal or plastic casing. The casing of the probe makes contact with the system/media being measured and the sensors within the casing typically measure a voltage difference or resistance.

Temperature Gauge
A temperature gauge is a device used for the accurate measurement and reading of temperature gradients. The term temperature gauge usually, though not always, refers to a device showing readings on a numbered dial.
Dial thermometer gauges are often found in industrial and commercial settings. They are also common in certain everyday domestic settings and appliances. Temperature measurement gauges fall into two broad categories - contact thermometers, and non-contact thermometers. People often buy a temperature gauge to help monitor ambient temperatures at the mounting location. These are non-contact sensors.

Non-Contact Infrared Thermometer
Measuring a person’s temperature can be done in several ways. One method to measure a person’s surface temperature is with the use of non-contact infrared thermometers (NCITs). NCITs may be used to reduce cross-contamination risk and minimize the risk of spreading disease.
Infrared light works like visible light--it can be focused, reflected, or absorbed. Infrared thermometers usually use a lens to focus infrared light from one object onto a detector called a thermopile. The thermopile absorbs infrared radiation and turns it into heat. The more infrared energy, the hotter the thermopile gets. This heat is turned into electricity. The electricity is sent to a detector, which uses it to determine the temperature of whatever the thermometer is pointed at. The more electricity, the hotter the object is.
